Hamilton Beach 2 Slice Toaster, Extra-Wide Slots, Chrome-Plated Lever, Black, 22217

Researched like mad looking for a White toaster to replace a Kenmore stainless that always emitted electronics odor when in use, even after years of use. The HB had a mild odor the first couple of times, but nothing objectionable, goes away with use. Very few white toasters with a cool plastic exterior to prevent accidental burns that also have a simple interface. This HB toaster is lightweight, easy to move about even by elderly. The lever is easy to depress, and a push of the cancel button pops it up again. The surrounding dial around the cancel button works as expected. Also, after researching, this toaster was spot on in NOT burning toast in the lower settings (eg level 1-3). So you can get a warmed but not crisped or burnt toast on 1-2 all the way up to dark crunchy on max. The dial is easy to turn as well. Slot width is about 1 1/4 inch or a touch less. So regular slices of bread fit fine, bagels – fat ones might need to be palm squeezed flatter first, and odd ball breads won't fit. This is not a deep slot toaster either, so wide slices like Orwheat Buttermilk will stick out the slot a little (about 1/2 to 3/4 inch). For me, no problem. Even the Buttermilk slices come out golden, crisp and ready to be buttered. Breads are consistently toasted, so both sides come out nice with no grossly under or over toasted sections. The four sides have arched gaps at the bottom for the cord to come out all four ways – nice. Overall, I feel it is a nice toaster since I don't buy super thick or tall breads, and it doesn't burn, just toast golden, on the lower settings. Love the white plastic body and mom thinks it's cute.
